Premier’s Harmony Awards

Statewide storytelling from community to stage

Salty Dingo works with Multicultural NSW to deliver storytelling and event coverage for the Premier’s Harmony Awards — recognising individuals and organisations strengthening multicultural communities across New South Wales.

The work spans several months and brings together on-location filming, portrait photography and large-scale event coverage — capturing personal stories from across the state and presenting them on a single stage.

We work closely with government stakeholders, including the Premier, Ministers and agency leadership, ensuring content is aligned, timely and ready for distribution.

Overview

Spanning multiple locations, stakeholders and timelines, the project requires consistency from early production through to live event delivery.

The brief

Produce a series of short-form videos introducing each award recipient, to be played live as their names are announced at the Premier’s Harmony Dinner.

  • Create 13 x 60-second films, each telling a clear and authentic story

  • Film on location across NSW — in homes, workplaces and community settings

  • Capture supporting photography during filming

  • Deliver all content in time for a live event environment

  • Provide event photography coverage of the Awards night

The focus was simple: create work that feels genuine and delivers under pressure.

Our approach

Filming took place across December, January and February — travelling to meet recipients in their own environments.

Working in homes, workplaces and community spaces allowed each story to be grounded in reality, rather than constructed settings.

Each film was developed within a strict 60-second format — requiring clear storytelling, careful editing and a strong understanding of what matters most in each story.

At the same time, portrait imagery was captured for each recipient, ensuring consistency across all outputs.

Delivery

Production took place across multiple locations throughout New South Wales.

The project culminated in the Premier’s Harmony Dinner at the ICC Sydney Grand Ballroom — a 1,600-person event attended by the Premier of NSW and the Minister for Multiculturalism.

Each of the 13 films was played live as recipients were announced, forming a key part of the Awards presentation.

We also delivered full event photography coverage — documenting the evening, key moments and attendees.

Working within the environment

This project required a balance between time spent with individuals and the demands of a live event.

Filming involved entering personal and community spaces — requiring sensitivity, awareness and a considered approach.

The Awards night itself required precision. Each piece of content needed to run exactly as planned within a live program.

Our role was to deliver both — thoughtful storytelling and reliable execution.

The outcome

The films introduced each recipient to a live audience of 1,600 guests, forming a central part of the Awards presentation.

Photography and video content were distributed across NSW Government channels, as well as a wide range of multicultural and mainstream media.

Imagery was also featured across the Awards website and ongoing communications.

Why it matters

We’ve worked on the Premier’s Harmony Awards for over 10 years.

What stands out is the opportunity to meet recipients in their own environments — to understand their work and translate that into a story that can be shared more widely.

Our role is to make sure those stories are told clearly, and that they continue to have impact beyond the event itself.
